Sorry, I just want to repeat that: a man was taken from the desert, up into the sky, on a burning chariot (I am not sure if there were any flying horses, or whether or not they too would have been on fire)

I believe everything in the bible. But I’m wondering if this is imagery, as used in the book of Revelation. Did the writer of this use "chariot of fire" as a description because he didn’t know exactly how to describe what he saw? Unsure.

Nope. You might want to read the story again. He was taken up by a whirlwind, not on the chariot.
